How we earn money

Internetprovider.se is a comparison and information site. It is not an internet provider and it does not sell a connection.

Some providers may pay a commission if you continue to their site through an affiliate link. That commission is paid by the provider. It does not change the published prices in SEK, contract length or advertised speed, and it does not change the price sort.

Affiliate links are stored separately from the price feed. If a plan has no tracking URL, the button opens the provider’s official page.

Tracking URLs are added when an affiliate relationship is confirmed. Until then, plan buttons open the provider’s official Swedish pages.

Home Internet in Sweden – Broadband for Houses and Apartments

If you need home internet in Sweden, start with an address check: fibre is usually the most stable option where it is available, while mobile broadband can be quicker to start and easier to move. Compare the monthly price after promotions, the binding period, activation fees, router costs and whether the speed is an advertised maximum or something you can realistically expect at home.

Start with the address, not the brand

Residential internet Sweden offers are highly address-dependent. Two apartments in the same city can have different fibre networks, different providers and different prices, while a house may need a separate fibre installation or rely on mobile broadband until fibre is available.

For apartment internet Sweden, check whether the building has an open fibre network, a housing association agreement or a single provider arrangement. If broadband is included in the rent or monthly housing fee, you may still be able to upgrade speed, but the choice of provider can be limited.

For houses, confirm whether fibre is already connected to the property, whether an installation fee applies, and where the fibre termination point sits indoors. If fibre is not connected, a mobile broadband router may be the practical alternative, but performance depends on local 4G/5G coverage and signal quality inside the home.

You can use compare internet providers in Sweden as a starting point, then verify availability and final checkout terms directly with the provider for your address.

Fibre and mobile broadband solve different problems

Fibre broadband is usually the first option to check for a permanent home. In the published residential offers we reviewed, fibre speeds range from 10/10 Mbit/s to 1000/1000 Mbit/s, with symmetrical download and upload speeds common in the fibre plans.

That upload speed matters if you work from home, send large files, stream, back up photos or use video meetings often. A 100/100 Mbit/s fibre plan is already enough for many households, while 250/250, 500/500 or 1000/1000 Mbit/s can make sense for larger homes, heavy downloads or multiple users at the same time. For a deeper explanation of fibre availability and installation, see our guide to fibre internet in Sweden.

Mobile broadband uses a SIM and a 4G/5G router or modem. It can be easier when you are renting temporarily, moving soon, waiting for fibre, or living where fibre choices are weak. The trade-off is that mobile speeds are more variable: walls, distance to the mast, network load and router placement can all affect performance.

Mobile home plans in the offers we reviewed include fixed data allowances such as 5 GB, 20 GB, 40 GB, 70 GB, 100 GB and 200 GB, as well as plans described as unlimited. If you stream TV, use cloud backups or have several people online, a low data allowance can disappear quickly. Our separate guide to mobile broadband in Sweden explains when a SIM-based connection is likely to work well at home.

Advertised speeds are not the same as your Wi-Fi speed

The speed printed on a plan is an advertised access speed, not a guarantee that every device in your home will always see that number. Fibre is generally more predictable than mobile broadband, but Wi-Fi quality, old routers, thick walls and busy mesh networks can still reduce the speed you experience.

For fibre, look at both download and upload. A 1000/1000 Mbit/s plan can be useful, but only if your router, network cables and devices can use it. If you mainly browse, stream and work on one or two laptops, paying for the highest tier may not noticeably improve your day-to-day use.

For mobile broadband, many plans show a maximum download figure only, such as 150 Mbit/s, 600 Mbit/s or 1000 Mbit/s down. That does not tell you the typical speed inside your home, and the plan details may not state upload speed. After installation, test both wired and wireless performance; our internet speed guide for Sweden explains how to match speed tiers to normal household use.

What published SEK prices really mean

Prices for home broadband Sweden are often shown as a campaign monthly price followed by a higher ongoing price. The first number is important, but the later monthly price matters more if you plan to stay beyond the campaign period.

For example, a Telia fibre 250/250 Mbit/s plan in the reviewed offers is shown at 449 SEK per month for a 12-month term, then 649 SEK per month from month 13, with a 0 SEK activation fee stated. The flexible version of the same speed is shown at 649 SEK per month with no later campaign step stated. In that example, the 12-month offer costs 5,388 SEK for the first year before any optional equipment or service changes, while the flexible listed monthly price would cost 7,788 SEK over 12 months.

Mobile broadband can have a similar structure. A Comviq mobile broadband unlimited plan with 1000 Mbit/s down is shown at 249 SEK per month for 24 months, then 449 SEK from month 25, with 0 SEK activation fee stated. A flexible version at the same advertised 1000 Mbit/s down is shown at 449 SEK per month with no later campaign price stated. The lower monthly price can be attractive, but the 24-month binding period is a real commitment.

Activation fees also vary. Some fibre and mobile offers state 0 SEK, while others show a one-off fee such as 299 SEK or 399 SEK. Where the published plan details do not state activation, router rental or shipping costs, check the provider’s checkout before ordering rather than assuming they are included.

If you are mainly trying to reduce the monthly bill, compare the full first-year and post-campaign cost, not just the lowest introductory number. Our guide to cheap internet in Sweden gives a more price-focused way to think about discounts, fees and speed tiers.

Contract length can cost more than the discount saves

The published residential offers include flexible plans, 12-month terms and 24-month terms. A flexible plan may cost more each month, but it can be safer if you are renting, studying, relocating for work or waiting to see whether fibre becomes available.

A 12-month fibre contract can make sense when you know you will stay at the address and the campaign price is meaningfully lower than the flexible price. A 24-month mobile broadband contract needs more caution because mobile performance is location-sensitive; a strong advertised maximum is less useful if the signal is weak in your actual room.

The published plan details do not always state the notice period, router return rules or early termination charges. Before accepting a discounted offer, check what happens if you move, whether the contract can follow you to a new address, and whether you must return or pay for equipment.

If you need maximum flexibility, compare plans with no binding period first and read our guide to internet without a contract in Sweden. No-contract does not automatically mean cheapest, but it can reduce the risk of paying for a connection you can no longer use.

When a normal home plan is the wrong fit

A standard residential plan may not fit if you run a business from home and need service-level commitments, static IP options, priority support or documented uptime terms. Residential broadband is priced for household use, not for critical business operations.

Mobile broadband may also be the wrong primary connection if you need consistent low latency for competitive gaming, daily large uploads or video meetings where dropouts would cause serious problems. It can work very well in some homes, but you should test signal strength and router placement before relying on it as your only connection.

A high-speed fibre plan may be unnecessary if the household has light usage and older Wi-Fi equipment. Upgrading from 250/250 to 1000/1000 Mbit/s will not fix poor router placement or weak Wi-Fi in a distant bedroom. In those cases, a better router or mesh system may improve the experience more than a faster subscription.

Low-data mobile plans are not a good match for a full household connection. Plans with 5 GB, 20 GB or similar allowances can suit occasional use, a backup connection or a single light user, but streaming video and system updates can use that allowance quickly.

Sources and important notes

Prices, speeds, campaign periods, activation fees and contract terms can change and must be checked with the provider before you order. Published plan details do not always state notice periods, router rental, shipping, return fees or fair-use rules, so verify those points during checkout.

Availability always depends on the exact address. We do not use this guide to claim national fibre coverage percentages, live outage status, English-language support or a nationwide average speed.

Regulatory context: PTS – Post- och telestyrelsen is the Swedish authority for electronic communications.

Home internet: short answers

Confirm the live offer at your address.

Is fibre better than mobile broadband for a home in Sweden?

Fibre is usually the stronger choice for a permanent home if it is available at your address, especially for stable upload speed, gaming, video calls and several users. Mobile broadband can be better if you move often, need a quick start or cannot get fibre. The main risk with mobile is variable indoor speed and signal quality.

How much speed do I need for residential internet in Sweden?

Many households are comfortable on 100/100 or 250/250 Mbit/s fibre. Larger homes, heavy downloads, cloud backups and several simultaneous video streams may justify 500/500 or 1000/1000 Mbit/s. For mobile broadband, advertised maximum speed is less reliable as a planning number, so coverage and router placement matter more.

Are unlimited mobile broadband plans really unlimited?

Some mobile broadband plans are described as unlimited in the published offer information, but you should still read the provider’s terms. Check whether there are fair-use conditions, speed management, roaming limits or restrictions after unusually high usage. Do this before using mobile broadband as a full fibre replacement.

What should I check before ordering apartment internet in Sweden?

Check the exact apartment address, the building’s fibre network, whether broadband is included through the landlord or housing association, the available providers, the activation date and any equipment rules. Also confirm whether the price changes after a campaign period and whether there is a binding period or notice period.

Can I get home internet in Sweden without a long contract?

Yes, some published residential offers are flexible rather than tied to 12 or 24 months. They may have a higher monthly price or an activation fee, but they can be safer if you are renting, moving soon or unsure about the address. Always check the notice period and equipment return terms.

Why is the provider price different at checkout?

Checkout can change because availability, campaigns, address-specific networks, hardware choices and activation fees may differ from the headline offer. The final order page should show the binding price, term and one-off charges for your address. Save that confirmation so you can compare it with future bills.
