How we earn money

Internetprovider.se is a comparison and information site. It is not an internet provider and it does not sell a connection.

Some providers may pay a commission if you continue to their site through an affiliate link. That commission is paid by the provider. It does not change the published prices in SEK, contract length or advertised speed, and it does not change the price sort.

Affiliate links are stored separately from the price feed. If a plan has no tracking URL, the button opens the provider’s official page.

Tracking URLs are added when an affiliate relationship is confirmed. Until then, plan buttons open the provider’s official Swedish pages.

Fibre internet in Sweden

If your home can get fibre, it is usually the most stable fixed broadband choice in Sweden for streaming, remote work, gaming and households with several users. The first step is always an address check, because fibre internet Sweden offers depend on the building, local network and any open-fibre agreement at your property. You can also compare wider home internet in Sweden before choosing.

What fibre means at a Swedish address

Fibre broadband sends data through optical fibre rather than through the mobile network or older copper telephone lines. In a full fibre connection, often called FTTH Sweden or fibre-to-the-home, fibre reaches the building and connects to a fibre box or media converter inside the home.

In an apartment, the fibre may already be installed in the building and delivered through a wall socket. In a house, the connection may run from a local fibre network to a termination point in the property. Your router then distributes the connection over Wi-Fi or Ethernet inside the home.

The practical advantage is that fibre can support high advertised download and upload speeds, often with symmetrical packages such as 100/100, 250/250, 500/500 or 1000/1000 Mbit/s. Symmetrical speed is useful if you upload large files, use cloud backup, work over video calls or have several people online at once.

Fibre is still address-specific. A provider may sell fibre in one building on your street but not in another, because access depends on the local network, property owner, housing association and commercial agreements. Do not rely on a national coverage statement when ordering; check the exact address and apartment number if relevant.

What advertised fibre speeds do and do not tell you

Fibre plans are usually sold by advertised maximum speed. A 500/500 Mbit/s package means the provider is marketing up to 500 Mbit/s download and 500 Mbit/s upload under suitable conditions; it does not mean every device on Wi-Fi will always measure that speed.

Real-world performance depends on the router, Wi-Fi standard, distance from the router, walls, device capability and whether you use Wi-Fi or a wired Ethernet cable. If you pay for 1000/1000 Mbit/s but use an older router or laptop, the home network can become the bottleneck before the fibre line does.

For many households, 100/100 or 250/250 Mbit/s is enough for streaming, video meetings and everyday browsing. Larger homes, heavy upload use, gaming downloads and several 4K streams at the same time can justify 500/500 or 1000/1000 Mbit/s, provided your equipment can use it.

Providers and packages we found

Our research into published residential fibre offers found 46 fibre packages across eight providers: Allente, Boxer, Internetport, Ownit, Tele2, Telenor, Telia and Bahnhof. The offers ranged from 10/10 Mbit/s to 1000/1000 Mbit/s, with the most common advertised tiers around 100, 250, 500 and 1000 Mbit/s.

Several providers publish campaign prices for the first months and a higher monthly price after the campaign period. For example, Allente’s 1000/1000 Mbit/s fibre offer was advertised at 439 SEK per month with a later price of 899 SEK from month 13, while Ownit’s 1000/1000 Mbit/s offer was advertised at 395 SEK with a later price of 789 SEK from month 6. These are advertised offer prices, not a guarantee that the same price is available at every address.

Other providers publish list prices without a separate later price in the information we reviewed. Bahnhof’s fibre packages, for example, included flexible-term list-price offers from 10/10 Mbit/s at 429 SEK per month to 1000/1000 Mbit/s at 569 SEK per month, with activation fee stated as 0 SEK. Internetport published 12-month fibre offers from 10/10 Mbit/s at 399 SEK to 1000/1000 Mbit/s at 669 SEK; the later monthly price and activation fee were not stated in the published plan details, so you should confirm those before ordering.

If price is your main filter, compare the monthly cost after any campaign ends as well as the first-month amount. Our guide to cheap internet in Sweden explains why a low introductory price can be less attractive if the ongoing price, activation fee or router cost is high.

How to check whether fibre reaches your home

Use your exact address when checking availability. If you live in an apartment, include the flat number or the address format used by the provider’s checker. If you live in a detached house, check whether the fibre is already installed, available to activate, or requires a new installation.

In many Swedish fibre areas, the local network is separate from the retail provider. That means your home may be connected to an open network where several providers can sell service, or to a network where the choice is narrower. A provider page can show possible packages, but final availability still depends on the address lookup.

If you are moving, ask the current owner, landlord or housing association whether the fibre box is active and which network operator serves the property. Also ask whether broadband is included in the rent or association fee; some buildings have a group agreement that changes what you can order privately.

For a broader starting point, you can use our compare internet providers in Sweden guide to understand the difference between fibre, cable, fixed wireless and mobile broadband before entering an address with a provider.

Fibre compared with mobile broadband

Fibre is a fixed connection to the home. It is usually the better fit when you want predictable performance, low latency, high upload speed and a connection shared by the whole household. It also avoids relying on indoor mobile signal strength.

Mobile broadband can be more flexible. It may suit temporary housing, student accommodation, holiday homes or addresses where fibre installation is delayed or not available. It can also be easier to take with you if you move often.

The trade-off is that mobile broadband performance depends on the mobile network, local congestion, router placement and indoor signal. Some mobile plans may also have data limits or fair-use conditions, so heavy streaming and large downloads need careful checking. If you are considering that route, compare the practical details in our mobile broadband in Sweden guide.

When fibre is not the right choice

Fibre may not fit if you need internet immediately and the property is not already connected. A new installation can involve property access, installation appointments and costs that are not visible in a simple monthly price.

It may also be unnecessary if you only need light browsing for a short stay, especially when a 12-month term would outlast your tenancy. In that case, a flexible fibre plan, mobile broadband or a temporary solution may be easier to manage.

Fibre can also be a poor-value upgrade if your main problem is Wi-Fi coverage inside the home rather than the incoming line. If your speed is good beside the router but poor in another room, a better router placement, mesh Wi-Fi or wired access point may help more than paying for a faster fibre tier.

Finally, fibre is not automatically the cheapest option. Campaign prices can look low, but the ongoing monthly price after the introductory period may change the calculation. Always compare the first year and the price from the month the campaign ends.

Questions to ask before you place an order

Ask the provider to confirm the exact speed tier available at your address, the monthly price during and after any campaign, the contract length, the notice period and all one-off fees. If the activation fee is not stated, treat it as unverified until the provider confirms it in writing or during checkout.

Check whether a router is included, rented monthly, bought upfront or optional. Also ask whether you can use your own router, and whether the service needs a specific media converter or network port in the home.

For apartments and housing associations, confirm whether a collective broadband agreement already exists. For houses, check whether installation work, ducting, digging or an existing fibre termination affects the start date and cost.

Internetprovider.se is a comparison and guide site, not a broadband provider. Some links may be commercial; our commission transparency page explains how we earn money without changing the price you are offered by a provider.

Sources and editorial note

Prices, speeds, campaign periods, activation fees and terms can change and may vary by address. We use published residential plan information from provider pages such as Allente, Boxer, Internetport, Ownit, Tele2, Telenor, Telia and Bahnhof, and regulated market context from PTS – Post- och telestyrelsen. Always confirm final availability, price, router terms and contract conditions with the provider before ordering.

Fibre: short answers

Confirm the live offer at your address.

Is fibre available everywhere in Sweden?

No. Fibre availability depends on the exact address, local network and building connection. A neighbour may have fibre while your property does not, especially in areas with mixed housing or different network owners. Always run an address check before comparing final prices.

What speed should I choose for fibre internet in Sweden?

For everyday streaming, browsing and video calls, 100/100 or 250/250 Mbit/s is often enough. Larger households, heavy cloud backup, frequent large downloads and several simultaneous 4K streams may benefit from 500/500 or 1000/1000 Mbit/s. Your router and Wi-Fi setup also matter.

Are Swedish fibre plans unlimited?

The fibre offers we examined did not state data caps in the published plan details. That does not prove every condition is unlimited for every address or customer. Ask the provider whether any fair-use policy, traffic management rule or special network condition applies before you order.

Why is the later monthly price important?

Many fibre offers use an introductory monthly price for a limited period. The later price can start from month 6 or month 13 depending on the offer. Compare the first-year total and the ongoing price after the campaign, not only the lowest advertised monthly amount.

Can I use my own router with Swedish fibre?

Often you can, but it depends on the provider, network equipment and support policy. Check whether the provider supplies a router, charges rental, requires specific settings or only supports troubleshooting with its own equipment. This is especially important for 1000/1000 Mbit/s plans.

Is fibre better than mobile broadband?

Fibre is usually better for a permanent home connection where you want stable speed, low latency and high upload capacity. Mobile broadband can be better for temporary homes, fast setup or places without fibre. The right choice depends on availability, contract length, data needs and indoor signal quality.
