How we earn money

Internetprovider.se is a comparison and information site. It is not an internet provider and it does not sell a connection.

Some providers may pay a commission if you continue to their site through an affiliate link. That commission is paid by the provider. It does not change the published prices in SEK, contract length or advertised speed, and it does not change the price sort.

Affiliate links are stored separately from the price feed. If a plan has no tracking URL, the button opens the provider’s official page.

Tracking URLs are added when an affiliate relationship is confirmed. Until then, plan buttons open the provider’s official Swedish pages.

A cheap price is only useful if the plan fits your home

The lowest advertised price can be a good deal for light use, but it is not automatically the lowest total cost. A 5 GB or 10 GB mobile broadband plan may suit occasional laptop use, a secondary home or a short stay. It can become expensive or frustrating if you stream video every evening or share the connection with several people.

For cheap broadband Sweden searches, treat the monthly price as one part of the decision. You also need to check the later price after any campaign, whether a router is included or rented, the activation fee, the binding period and the notice period. If a value is not stated in the published plan details, confirm it with the provider before ordering.

Availability always depends on the exact address. Fibre, apartment networks and mobile 5G coverage can vary between buildings on the same street. A plan that looks like budget internet Sweden in one flat may not be orderable in another.

Introductory prices can rise sharply after the campaign

Several low-cost offers use a lower introductory monthly price before moving to a higher ongoing price. That does not make them bad deals, but you should calculate the cost over the period you expect to use the service.

Examples from published residential offers:

  • Hallon mobile broadband 5 GB: 49 SEK per month at introduction, then 89 SEK from month 3. The plan is marked as flexible and the published download speed is stated as “see provider”.
  • Hallon mobile broadband 100 GB: 129 SEK per month at introduction, then 249 SEK from month 3. The advertised download figure is 150 Mbit/s down.
  • Hallon mobile broadband unlimited: 199 SEK per month at introduction, then 399 SEK from month 3. The advertised download figure is 150 Mbit/s down.
  • Comviq mobile broadband unlimited with an advertised 1000 Mbit/s download figure: 249 SEK per month, then 449 SEK from month 25, with a 24-month term and 0 SEK activation fee.
  • Ownit fibre broadband 10/10 Mbit/s: 250 SEK per month at introduction, then 499 SEK from month 6, with a 12-month term. The published activation fee is not stated.

A simple worked example shows why the later price matters. Hallon’s 100 GB mobile broadband offer would cost 1,254 SEK over the first six monthly bills before any unstated one-off costs: two months at 129 SEK and four months at 249 SEK. Ownit’s 10/10 fibre offer would cost 4,743 SEK over the 12-month term before any unstated one-off costs: five months at 250 SEK and seven months at 499 SEK.

Those examples are not a ranking because they are different products. One is mobile broadband with a 100 GB data allowance, while the other is fibre with 10/10 Mbit/s speed and published data marked as not stated. Use the same calculation for every offer you compare: campaign months, later months, fees and equipment.

Illustration of comparing lower-cost home internet plans in Sweden

Small mobile plans are cheap only when your data use is small

Mobile broadband is often the first place to look for billigt internet Sverige if you need a low headline price. It is also where data caps matter most. A 5 GB, 10 GB or 20 GB allowance can disappear quickly if you watch video, use cloud backups or update large games.

Hallon publishes mobile broadband options including 5 GB, 20 GB, 100 GB, 200 GB and unlimited data, each marked as flexible. Tellus publishes a 10 GB mobile broadband plan at 145 SEK per month, but the term is stated as “see provider”, so do not treat it as no-contract unless Tellus confirms that during checkout.

Telenor publishes a 15 GB mobile broadband plan at 169 SEK per month, marked as flexible, with an advertised 60 Mbit/s download figure and 0 SEK activation fee. Telia publishes 40 GB mobile broadband at 239 SEK per month with an advertised 60 Mbit/s download figure and 299 SEK activation fee; one version is flexible and another has a 24-month term.

Mobile speeds are affected by coverage, indoor signal, network load, the router or modem and whether the provider’s stated figure is an advertised maximum. If you are choosing between capped and unlimited mobile broadband, our guide to mobile broadband in Sweden explains the trade-offs in more detail.

Fibre can be better value when you need stable home use

Fibre often has a higher monthly price than the smallest mobile plans, but it can be better value for a household that streams, works from home or has several connected devices. Fibre is normally sold by speed tier rather than a small monthly data allowance. Exact availability still depends on the building and network owner.

The Ownit 10/10 Mbit/s fibre offer is a budget example rather than a high-speed plan. It has symmetrical 10 Mbit/s download and upload speed, a 12-month term, an introductory price of 250 SEK per month and a later price of 499 SEK from month 6. The published plan details do not state an activation fee, so check the order page before committing.

A cheap fibre plan may be enough for email, banking, browsing and one modest video stream, but 10/10 Mbit/s can feel tight for remote work calls, several users or large downloads. If you are unsure how fibre differs from mobile broadband or cable-style services, see our guide to fibre internet in Sweden.

Fees and equipment can change the real price

Setup costs are easy to miss because they are not always part of the monthly price. Telia’s 40 GB mobile broadband plans state a 299 SEK activation fee. Telenor’s 15 GB mobile broadband plan and the Comviq unlimited mobile broadband offers in the comparison state 0 SEK activation fee.

For Hallon, Tellus and Ownit examples, the published activation fee in the supplied plan details is not stated. That does not mean it is 0 SEK. It means you should check the checkout page and contract summary for activation, shipping, SIM, installation and any router charge.

Router costs deserve separate attention. A provider may sell a plan with or without a router, include equipment during a binding period, charge rental, or require you to return hardware when the contract ends. If the cheapest monthly option assumes you already own compatible equipment, your first-year cost may be higher than the headline price suggests.

A longer contract can lower the monthly bill, but reduces flexibility

Contract length affects the real cost of cheap internet in Sweden. A 24-month deal can make sense if you know you will stay at the address and the ongoing price is acceptable. It is riskier if you are renting short-term, studying for one semester or waiting for fibre installation.

Comviq’s unlimited mobile broadband offers in the reviewed residential plans have 24-month terms. One has an advertised 1000 Mbit/s download figure at 249 SEK per month before rising to 449 SEK from month 25. Another has an advertised 100 Mbit/s download figure at 269 SEK per month before rising to 399 SEK from month 25. Both state 0 SEK activation fee.

Telia publishes both a flexible 40 GB mobile broadband option and a 24-month 40 GB option, each at 239 SEK per month with a 299 SEK activation fee in the plan details. Ownit’s 10/10 Mbit/s fibre example has a 12-month term. Where the term says “see provider”, ask the provider to confirm the binding period and notice period in writing or in the order documentation.

When the cheapest-looking option is the wrong choice

A very low-cost plan does not fit every household. Avoid small capped mobile broadband if you rely on video meetings, frequent streaming, online gaming, smart home devices or large software downloads. You may hit the data allowance or experience speeds that vary with mobile network conditions.

Be careful with long contracts if your living situation may change. A 24-month plan can be poor value if you move to an address where the service is not suitable, or if a better fixed broadband option becomes available. Check the provider’s moving terms before you sign.

Also avoid choosing only by advertised maximum speed. A mobile plan with a high stated download figure may still perform differently indoors, during busy hours or in weak coverage areas. Fibre with a lower speed tier may feel more predictable for everyday home use if it is available at your address.

Using comparisons without assuming there is one cheapest provider

No single provider can be called the cheapest overall without a live method covering address availability, campaign prices, later prices, fees, router terms, data caps and contract length. The cheapest plan for a light mobile user is not the same as the cheapest reliable connection for a family in a fibre-connected apartment.

A practical approach is to compare three totals: the first three months, the first 12 months and the expected monthly price after the campaign. Then remove plans that do not meet your minimum needs for data, speed, contract flexibility and equipment. If a provider’s published details do not state a fee or term clearly, ask before ordering rather than assuming the missing value is favourable.

Sources and commercial note

Plan prices, speeds, data allowances, contract lengths and fees can change, and availability depends on your exact address. Confirm the final terms with the provider before you order. Cheap internet: short answers

Confirm the live offer at your address.

What is the cheapest type of internet in Sweden?

Small mobile broadband plans often have the lowest headline monthly price, especially with limited data such as 5 GB or 20 GB. They are not automatically the cheapest for heavy use. If you stream, work from home or share the connection, a fibre plan with a higher monthly price may be better value because you are less constrained by data allowance.

Why does the later monthly price matter so much?

Many offers start with a campaign price and then rise after a stated month. For example, some mobile broadband offers rise from month 3, while some 24-month offers rise from month 25. Always calculate the period you expect to keep the service, not only the first bill.

Can I get cheap internet without a long contract?

Some mobile broadband plans are marked as flexible, including several Hallon options and Telenor’s 15 GB plan. Other low-cost offers use 12-month or 24-month terms. If the provider’s published plan details say “see provider”, confirm the binding period and notice period before ordering.

Is fibre or mobile broadband cheaper for students in Sweden?

It depends on the address, length of stay and usage. Mobile broadband can be cheaper for light use or temporary housing, but data caps can be limiting. Fibre can be better if your apartment already has access and you need stable internet for study, calls and streaming.

What extra costs should I check before ordering?

Check activation fees, installation costs, SIM or shipping charges, router purchase or rental, and return rules for equipment. Also check when the introductory price ends. If a fee is not stated in the published plan details, ask the provider to confirm it during checkout.

Does a high advertised mobile speed mean better cheap internet?

Not necessarily. Advertised mobile speeds are affected by coverage, indoor signal, router quality and network load. A plan with a higher stated maximum can still perform poorly in the wrong location. Check coverage at your address and consider whether a lower-speed fibre connection would be more stable.
